Thesis Progression

After doing some preliminary research and thinking about my thesis over the summer, I have started to narrow down what I would like to explore in the world of B:atman and technology. Below is my current line of thinking after brainstorming for an hour:

Question: How does Batman’s use of information technology reflect society’s use of information technology?

Topics to cover:

What do I mean by information technology? For example, the Batcomputer is definitely information technology but a Batarang generally is not (well, except if it can be programmed or rely on information technology like the Batarang in Batman Returns)

Show how Batman progressively depended more and more on information technology in his media
Examples:
- Batcomputer
- Oracle/Robin
- Gotham City Police Department
- From calling Commissioner Gordon using the red flashing phone to texting him

Show how Batman’s villains progressively depended more and more on information technology (maybe too broad?):
Examples:
-From robbing a bank to stealing bank account information electronically
-From the Joker sending a message through the radio to viral video

Compare and Contrast
Examples:
-Show any similarities/differences between the types of information technology Batman and his enemies use
-Information technology has a dual nature – protect vs. destroy, open source vs. proprietary, good vs. evil. How does this relationship play out in the Batman universe?

-Frequency of Information Technology used
